Doug, it is not just Idaho. We have potentially the same problem right here in MO. One of the largest cobalt deposits in the world is in SE MO and there was a bill introduced in the state legislation session this past session linked indirectly with this cobalt mine/deposit (but one would not be able to figure that out by the title of the bill). Of course the people behind it are state politicians, mostly former ones. It has to do with water rights, and the devious plans to "export" water right out of missouri. It's a deep rabbit hole if one starts to connect the dots. The bill i believe did not pass but it moved thru the process very quickly. you can be sure that it will resurface again next session. Something similar passed in Arkansas but for large lithium deposits. Dammit people, start paying attention and get active at your local and state level instead of the constant 24/7 Trump/Biden and DC swamp happenings. We have swamps to clean up right in our own states.

On the Walton's there was an episode where John Boy sold his share of Walton's Mountain. He sold it to propel his Journalism career and get the money for a printing press. That's how I remember it but I might be wrong. Anyway the people that bought it were looking for uranium from what I remember. They were using high pressure water to strip the land. His Grandfather Zebulon was very angry and disappointed in John Boys decision. The episode is a good example of what this looks like. The images shown looked like actual footage of the process. It probably was footage of it being done somewhere else in the 1970's. The footage was in color. Also remember, the Walton's TV show was based on a true story. Cobalt itself is nothing new. I used to prefer cobalt drills for drilling into stainless steel. They greatly outperform regular high speed steel drills. If you have a carbide drill (C6) I'm pretty sure it will outperform a cobalt drill. It might cost more, but I'm not sure without checking. Maybe they could get folks to turn in their cobalt drills for these new technologies instead of destroying land. Our government is currently so corrupt and lame I'm not sure if they would take the time to look at other options or even be willing to listen to alternative ideas.
